MLW is now providing a number of newsagent specific training programs for staff, seniors and managers/owners, these are outlined below. A new concept in Newsagency Cooperatives called First Advantage Newsagents  is now available and provides newsagents a great opportunity to develop their business and profitability. Along with these is a Business and Marketing Manual that will provide newsagents a means to really develop their local market and have a 12 month supported program in place.

This manual will contain strategic business operation tools and assessments designed to maximise profit within the newsagency through better stock control, stock selection and layout. A full local marketing campaign kit is included and will be developed in conjunction with Mark Wrice specifically for your location. The purchasing of the manual will also provide 12 months of online and phone support and monitoring covering Merchandising, stock, service, safety assessment and advice plus general assistance as required. The Manual marketing kit is Newsagency Location unique and as such the offer is STRICTLY LIMITED to 150 newsagencies exclusively (Australia wide) for the 12 month period. Staff Program - $495.00 per person - click here for application

The first stage of the staff program (stage 2 will follow) is a 3 day multi topic course designed to provide your staff the skills to realise their potential as a valuable contributing part of the business. It is split over a week to provide staff the ability to do some in-store assessment projects and bring these back into the course for discussion. The 3 day split will be Monday, Tuesday and Friday. It covers merchandising, stock control, service/selling and security. Each component will have checklists and projects to be completed in-store between days and assessed back at the course.

Statements of Attainment can be provided for the topic areas at an additional cost and will go towards completing a Certificate II in Retail. Please note that Government funded traineeships for eligible employees are also available for Certificate II, III and IV for both new employees and existing workers  through MLW and its business partners, see the Traineeship section.

The program consists of 2 days specifically designed to improve profitability by simply making more sales from less stock. We will work with your figures and a local market analysis. We will look at rethinking stock holding according to what is sensible and sustainable from your business’ point of view – no one else’s. Realistically you should be on a replenishment system based on your sales - nothing else, and nobody elses guestimates or arranged sweetheart deals. The Certificate of Newsagency Operations would be seen as a prerequisite for this program.
